Neferti Tadiar's Fantasy Production
Heto lang ulit ang isang little memo tungkol sa isang person from our not too distant past. The Ateneo de Manila University Press and Kritika Kultura warmly invite you to
the launching of Neferti Tadiar's FANTASY-PRODUCTION: Sexual Economies and other Philippine Consequences for the New World Order, on FRIDAY, July 9, 4.30 to 6 pm, Faculty Lounge, De la Costa Hall, ADMU campus.
To offer an understanding of the dynamics of Philippine fantasy-production, the author looks "at a broad range of phenomena characterizing the contemporary national formation of the Philippines, including the prostitution economy, the mass migration overseas of domestic workers, urban restructuring, and the
popular revolt deposing the Marcos dictatorship, as well as
representational works of art, poetry, historical narrative, and film, which try to intervene in these historical conditions."
According to Vicente Rafael, "FANTASY-PRODUCTION is an important and
much needed intervention in the growing debates regarding globalization and its vicissitudes especially in the so-called third world. It is of great value to those with a stake in grafting feminist critiques of modernization theory with postcolonial theories regarding the fate of the nation-state amid emergent
conditions of the international (and gendered) divisions of labor. And it is a welcome addition to the growing body of critical area studies, offering theoretically informed analysis of an important area of Southeast Asia."
Neferti Xina M. Tadiar is associate professor at the University of
California, Santa Cruz.

Copublished with the Hong Kong University Press. The Philippine edition is for sale in the Philippines and ASEAN only. For a while there, nung nabasa kong "Fantasy Production" parang tunog porn siya pero hindi. Hehehe. Ah, the good old days of just kicking back and staring at Neferti Tadiar and pretending that I got past the first paragraph of The Secret Sharer and I actually understood what post-colonial and what the political implication of this and that meant.
Yung ibang essays nabasa ko na. Umappear yung piece on Nora Aunor and Himala sa Geopolitics of the Visible na inedit ni Roland Tolentino at hanggang ngayon ay binubuo ko pa rin. Favorite Neferti essay ko pa rin yung Fantasy Secret of Killing Time chuva.
