Lingua Prangka

Sabi nung ininterview namin kanina: "Pure Bisaya man ako. Dili ako magtagalog sa inyo." For a while there, I thought we weren't going to get our story. We trekked 5 hours to get to the place. It was all coastlines, then mountains. From the city, it took 3 hours to get to the base of the mountains. From there, we did around 2 hours of rough terrain. 4x4 na gamit duon so partida na yung 2 hours. Kung taga-doon iyon, 5 oras ang lakad.

Avocado is in the middle of nowhere. Para siyang bowl, puro bundok lang. Sabi sa amin, may mga tao doon na di pa man lang nakatanaw ng dagat sa tanang buhay nila. And I can believe that.

Sa Dumaguete, we could wing it on minimal Bisaya. Most of the people we dealt with had something to do with education or government. So they would speak Tagalog with us. Pero pagdating sa bundok, hirap na naman kami. May punto naman yung subject namin eh: Pag siya ang pumunta sa Maynila, pipilitan siyang magtagalog or else walang makakaintindi or magtitiyagang umintindi sa kanya. So ngayong kaming mga taga-Maynila ang na-displace, aba, he could refuse to talk our talk and insist on his.

Frustration ko talaga iyon. On and off naman akong nagpupunta sa Visayas area, but I could never pick up nor talk whole sentences on it. Pag nakinig ka naman mabuti maiintindihan mo, pero nahihirapan akong magsalita. You could get their accent if you want to, but that's cheating. Everyone could do exaggerated accents. Pinoy pa.

Dili pa man din ako makaintindi kung mabilis ng magsalita. Puwede bang mix na lang? Confused ang language ko eh.

Uy fresh from the airport pa ako. Nagmamadaling umuwi at mag-angas kasi. Hehe.
